Start your green technology today

Do you know vermicompost? Both are origin from worms. Worms that we see underneath the soil or can found at your backyard.

I suggest making updates for this topic but I am afraid I could not. By the way I am new into this 'hobby' and I am not an expert yet about vermicomposting. What I've learned from theory so far was transform into real job and as a result I success to produce 15 kilograms of vermicompost the organics fertilizer and used by myself for my backyard and sell to my closed friends to test the affect onto plants.

Basically vermicompost consist of three basic components which are worms (worm itself), bed ('place to sleep') and medium (a combination like kitchen waste). Some people group bed and medium as one term. On this article I am about to share more on vermicomposting.

First thing first. Worms comes from different name according to where countries it comes from. For example African Night Crawler (ANC) comes from Africa. You may identify local worms in your place if it is suitable for commercial value. Native worm cannot produce vermicompost. Popular worm called red worm and tiger worm.

General speaking vermicompost is a worm casting. Worm casting is result of mixing like kitchen waste, newspaper, cardboard, animal manure, all those vegetables and grapes or similar after consume by the thousand of worms inside the bin (1 kilos of worm consist of over thousand worm). One kilograms of worm turn to two kilograms (double population) in one month. Worm egg called cocoon.

Meat, fish, chicken waste etc. are not good for vermicomposting because it was attracted other creatures (i.e. cat, dog) and producing harmful microorganism and bad fungus. Harvesting first (in three weeks respectively) vermicompost by collecting the top level of the bin and leave the worm inside for next round. You can apply the vermicompost by using it onto your garden and see the different. Vermicompost is 100% Organic and very effective in the required adjustment of the P.H of the Soils. It was not harm to any human or even environment. Doing vermicomposting mean we are supporting for green earth and organic life.

Increasing waste generation in developing countries has alarmed authorities on waste disposal issues. Therefore, various alternatives have been looked into to reduce waste disposed into landfill such as compost, biogas and others. I also blogging it here and thanks for visiting. Start your vermicomposting today and count your kitchen waste recycle.

How to avoid ants (and others critters) from entering worm bin

This site is for them who start vermicompost and vermiculture from scratch. As you can find on this blog i was start my bin from old refrigerator at zero cost.

Now the problems has come, others critters share the bin with the worms. Not just to stay but they are enemy to the worm too. The critters i meant for example like ants, cockroach, lizard, snail, termite, centipede etc.

I got an idea. To avoid all those critters from entering the worm bin just put an oil around the bin. The oil could be cooking oil, engine (car)oil, grease or similar.

Pouring water around is a good idea too but not efficient as oil.

Some the of the material could be dangerous to worm and nature but make sure to use it properly and carefully. Just paint it exactly outside the bin.

No more aliens.

Vermicompost Universal fertilizer

Worm fertilizers is very flexible. It can be used for a variety of perennial plants, whether for seasonal plants or short-term plants.

Vermicompost which we produce is organic fertilizer that has a higher nutrient content than regular fertilizer. It also does not harm humans, livestock or plants because it has not used any chemicals elements. If you are interested in planting a flower either for sale or self-use and we encourage you to use compost fertilizer.

Worm Compost fertilizer can be found in the store or ordering from agricultural producers in fertilizer near by.

How to take care of Plants?
Different flower different threat. Some flower not produce flowers. It might be just a green leaves. Combination of soil is important also soil PH (too acidic or too alkaline). Normal PH should be 7. Moisture also important in order the plant to grow well. For nutrients content you can use vermicompost. Apply twice per week or where necessary.

Runaway Worms

I was purchasing African Night Crawler (ANC) few weeks ago. The weight is 2 kilograms. The owner is so generosity and give extra 200 grams of worms.

So i was put in to my new bin consist of goat manure, news paper, chicken's egg shell, kitchen waste,EM and worms booster.

Seem like good for first day, but after weeks they try to escape from the bin. The worms climb the bin and crawl near the bin mouth. Some of them manage to escape from the bin to the ground.

At first time i was taught not enough of 'food' or may be population density but isn't.

So i make a call to the seller tell about the situation and he say the worms need ventilation (oxygen). Now i figure out what is the problem. My bin are tight (sealed by rubber) and not enough for air to get through.

This is my first lesson.
